Why I Can’t Feel The “Joementum”

Joe with his campaign manager

Joe Lieberman, Connecticut’s senator for the past 18 years, has been getting to me lately. For those of you who do not spend your time watching Connecticut Democratic Primary races and results I thought I would do a little review on where I think the guy went wrong.

I was never a really huge Joe fan to be honest. Yeah, he was the VP nominee back in 2000 (even though he kept running for his senate seat at the same time), but that was back when democrats were trying to prove that they were not the party of blowjobs. Nothing about Joe Lieberman makes you think he gets blowjobs. His voting record looks OK, but when it came down to the really important things; Schiavo, Alito, the war in Iraq, he really went the wrong way . What really pushed him over the edge was this statement :

“It’s time for Democrats who distrust President Bush to acknowledge that he will be the commander in chief for three more critical years, and that in matters of war we undermine presidential credibility at our nation’s peril.”

That made me wonder, why not tell the president that it is at our nations peril every time he undermines his own credibility? No, instead Joe decides to tell Democrats not to oppose the President. Saying the President can’t handle the War on Terror or Iraq is to the nations peril? Because really, nobody wants an “opposition” party.

To be fair, that statement helped Joe create history. He managed to do what nobody in politics can do, lose as an incumbent. He is one of four incumbents to lose their parties nomination in the last 26 years. This is the one place I like where Joe is going. If he manages to get one less incumbent re-elected, then I am all for it. But, his first move after losing the Democratic primary to his challenger Ned Lamont was so Kevin Federline-esque, it is amazing. Nobody wanted Joe at their party, so he started one all his own! Joe is still running, just under the Team Connecticut Party. Nobody can kick him out of the Team Connecticut Party. He should have called it “The Federation Records Party”. So that is the plan, run in the primary, and if you lose, just say you are not a Democrat.

I thought he was bad as a democrat, but he has gotten worse as a republican, he just started acting stupid.

“If we just pick up like Ned Lamont wants us to do, get out by a date certain, it will be taken as a tremendous victory by the same people who wanted to blow up these planes in this plot hatched in England,” Mr. Lieberman said at a campaign event in Waterbury, Conn. “It will strengthen them, and they will strike again.

Come on Joe! Everyone knows that Al-qaeda only supports Green and Reform Party candidates. He seems here to be suggesting that the 60% of Americans who want us out of Iraq are strengthening terrorists. I really believe that people are not confusing what is going on in Iraq with the War on Terror. I’d appreciate if Joe could spell out the connection between Iraq and the recent arrests in Britain. Oh, and taking talking points from old men who shoot people in the face? Way to keep yourself relevant. This is the kind of stuff that gave Cheney an 18 point approval rating.

I really hope this guy loses his Senate seat. I am hoping this will start to change the whole “both parties are the same” idea. When Democrats start acting like Republicans have been, Democrat voters get rid of them. Lieberman’s Presidential campaign’s “Joementum” in 2004 should have told him that people didn’t like what he was saying. Even if he did manage a three way tie for third place in one state.
